This year’s Tour de Frederick was another huge success for cyclists and spectators alike. With the National Clustered Spires High Wheel race, The Tour made for a great weekend. And as you might have guessed, there were many volunteers there to help. Of course it was HOT, August always is, but with the heat index reaching above 110, there were more bikes to fix, and more riders to care for. But from what we could see, the warmer weather didn’t suppress the smiles, the joyful conversations, and the happy looks on everyone involved.
And while the rides and race were all great fun, the real winners are the kids of the Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County. With the guidance of Carole Heine (The Tour de Frederick Director) the weekend events went smoothly and generated over $215,000. Nice job everyone!
Another great success of the weekend was the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek’s bicycle collection. This hard working team of volunteers received over 61 bicycle for Bikes for the World! If you haven’t donated to Bikes for the World, why not get in touch with the Rotary. It’s a great way to recycle your old ride.
We also want to thank to Wayne Rhoades and RegPix Images for the high wheel pictures.
An equal huge thank you to Jeff Behm Photography for the photos of the Tour de Frederick ride.
