Bottom bracket height is always a bit of a compromise. A high BB reduces the likelihood of striking your pedals on rocks, but it also means a higher center of gravity which can have a negative effect on handling.

The stock Specialized Stumpjumper FSR 6Fattie comes with a measured BB height of 330mm. Given the rocky terrain of our local trails, some of our riders have opted for the extended shock link which lifts the BB 8mm. This may not sound like much, but it is quite noticeable when riding on rocky terrain. Recently, we installed a long shock link, aka Fu Manchu, on a Stumpjumper 6Fattie. On this alteration we took careful measurements of BB height and headtube angle before and after the extended link was installed. This modification is even easier on the 2018 Specialized Enduro which has a spacer that can be oriented in either a high or low setting.

Below is what we found out. So…. which Fu Manchu is for you?!?!

Headtube Angle 68.1 degrees
Bottom Bracket Height 330mm
